The purpose of the establishment of the association is to ensure that Doğrula gains a legal entity identity. The association has no membership activity. The main project of the association is Dogrula.org. The Digital Society Research Association is an NGO founded in 2021 with the aim of producing digital media projects and has adopted the motto "conscious digital society". Doğrula.org, the starting point and main project of the association, joined the association in the same year and remains a priority for the association.
Like the origin story of other fact-checking organizations operating in Turkey, Doğrula.org operates under the umbrella of an association, the Digital Society Research Association. Doğrula.org is META's "Turested Partner". In 2024, we aim to take this relationship one step further and become a third-party verifier. For this, we continue our cooperation and communication with the brand.
Our organization, which is carefully followed by META with the effect of our social media interaction power, especially Instagram, aims to strengthen its relations with the projects it offers to the brand.
On the other hand, we also maintain our relations with the TikTok platform. Again, we are closely monitoring opportunities for cooperation with this platform, where the spread of misinformation is high.
Although our interaction on social media platforms is increasing, we continue to seek alternative channels in line with our goals of combating disinformation and improving media literacy. For this reason, Doğrula.org has included the creation of a mobile application in its 2024 plans. In addition to the main purposes of the mobile application such as increasing user access and building a community, another goal of Doğrula is to reach our users with fast and instant notifications through the application. After the EFCSN application, our rating system has changed. We no longer use the system where the falsity of the claim is rated. Considering that this system has a structure that complicates the user experience, we now make our fact-checks through two options, False and True, and categorize them according to the types of false information (fabricated, manipulation, etc.).
Although there is no preference for not marking accurately in our editorial choices, the strength of the spread of disinformation and misinformation in Turkey shifts our priority and focus to content that spreads more "False". In the limited availability of "True" content that we mark, our editorial approach is based on the extent to which the information presented, while true, creates public debate and conflict over its accuracy and inaccuracy.

The new rating system is better. When I check the website, I do still see only fact-checks which are false as you mentioned. I compared it with other fact-checking organizations. On the quality of fact-checks I do still have concerns. Most of them looks like duplicated from other organizations.
As I see you do also fact-check viral content(s) on daily issues. As a recommendation, if you really want to make people digitally literate, try to fact-check true ones as well.

Our organization, which is carefully followed by META with the effect of our social media interaction power, especially Instagram, aims to strengthen its relations with the projects it offers to the brand.
On the other hand, we also maintain our relations with the TikTok platform. Again, we are closely monitoring opportunities for cooperation with this platform, where the spread of misinformation is high.
Although our interaction on social media platforms is increasing, we continue to seek alternative channels in line with our goals of combating disinformation and improving media literacy. For this reason, Doğrula.org has included the creation of a mobile application in its 2024 plans. Due to the nature of the association structure under which it operates, Doğrula is an organization that needs to continue its activities through donations. Our regular donors currently include two companies and two organizations. These companies (Türk Telekom and Tukcell) are leading companies operating in the communications sector in Turkey. The organizations are Global Giving and IFCN.
The auditor's conclusions regarding Türk Telekom and Turkcell are correct, and these statements are common in the Turkish public opinion. However, in a field where it is extremely difficult to find financial resources, we should attach importance to the fact that we were able to provide such a resource. We consider the critical point to be whether it affects editorial independence.
In 2021, prior to this relationship with Türk Telekom and Turkcell, Doğrula held meetings with various brands in line with its own goals. With the awareness of both its activity in the digital field and the organic contact of the communication sector with its own goals, Doğrula preferred a social responsibility agreement with companies with a limited presence in the communication sector. This relationship has been continuing since 2021, without going beyond social responsibility activities, with donations that can be considered as small amounts for an organization with as high social media interaction skills as Doğrula.org.
In the 3 years it has received donations from Türk Telekom and Turkcell, Doğrula proves that it has not gone beyond the boundaries of the methodology on its website with over 1,000 analyses that should be subject to evaluation, that it maintains its impartiality, and that it handles all kinds of content that will benefit the public without hesitation within the framework of providing sufficient evidence.
It is seen in the publishing contents, which is the only area in which we operate, that Doğrula has no tangible or intangible connection with these companies, some of which are publicly traded too, beyond the social responsibility project, and that such a connection cannot be established with any of the Doğrula analyses.
Below are some examples of the analysis we covered and published during the recent 2023 local elections. Even on the most political issues, it is not only Doğrula itself that takes a completely independent view of the situation. Here, when we analyze their fact-checks, we see that there are some fact-checks about mis/disinformation spread before, during and after the elections in 2023. However to find political fact-checks about political issues we need to spend time on the website or search for one of the widely distributed disinformation during the election. Doğrula.org categorizes the importance of its analyses by prioritizing 'crisis, disaster and pandemic' topics, as stated on its website. What is critical for Doğrula is not whether the analysis is political or not, but whether it is current or relevant to current news, and its dissemination power and impact. Our approach to fact-checking is that it should not only focus on political and policy analysis, but also on almost every issue that is in the public interest in a much broader framework.
When prioritizing claims, we first consider the 'humanitarian benefit' aspect. The "2023 Elections" category, which was on our website's homepage from the 2023 election period until mid-October (for about 7 months), was changed after the Israeli-Palestinian conflict that started on October 7 due to the topicality of the issue, the global crisis condition and the disinformation effect it created in Turkey.
As Doğrula, we continue to update our website according to agendas such as crises, disasters and pandemics within the framework of 'humanitarian benefit'. As in previous disasters, crises, pandemics and election periods, we will carry the upcoming 2024 elections to the top of our website with the same approach.

It seems like the organization tries to give a place to different political actors. To understand they are totally impartial, I tried to deeply analyze fact-checks. I see that they fact-checked one of the most disputed disinformation during the elections, 5 days after the disinformation spread by the President Erdoğan. I checked when other fact-checking organizations in Turkey fact-checked the same allegation that Murat Karayılan (the leader of PKK) was in the promotional film of the Nation Alliance. It spread on 7th May and it was instantly fact-checked by other organizations. However as I see Doğrula.org fact-checked it on May 12. It is a kind of editorial choice. This is why, to say it is compliant I need more information about their editorial choices.

The links to all of Doğrula's political analyses during the aforementioned period (May 7-May 12) are as shown below, and a careful review reveals that the predominant tone of the analyses is not against the political alliance in question, but in favor of it. In other words, it is not possible for Doğrula.org to take a political stance on this content.
The reason for the late publication of the content in question compared to other fact-checking organizations can be explained as follows. When the allegation was first shared, it was not considered "real" by the general public. Many posts said that the montage was obvious. Afterwards, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan first used the footage at his rally on May 7. Throughout this time, the Doğrula editors continued to follow up on this content while taking care of other work at the desk. On May 11, when he brought it up again and the disinformation strengthened, the analysis process of the claim started for Doğrula.
At no other time during the same period would it have been possible for Doğrula's editorial choices to take a political stance, nor would it have been possible at any other time. Other reviews of the date range are below.

When I check the staff members of Dogrula, I se that most of them newly graduated young people. One of the staff members previously worked for a progovernmental newspaper and also TRT (Public Service Media Channel of Turkey which is also under state control). But as I could find, none of them are getting salaries from the governmental institutions or political parties. If I should check biographies of the staff members of the parent organization, I need more information because I can not find anything on the web. If it is, one of staff members of the parent organization might be a journalist who is working for another pro-governmental news media outlet. Unfortunately, this organization is not transparent about resumes and their staff members.

Doğrula.org's strategy for creating new jobs in 2021 is based on two options. One is to work with trained and qualified people, and the other is to create a staff of young people who have graduated from the country's major universities, are interested in fact-checking and want to develop themselves in this field.
Our organization, which wants to undertake the mission of being a school with its own strategic and social responsibility goals, has chosen the second alternative and has taken the responsibility of training people in this field by setting out with a young and dynamic team and experienced managers.
As mentioned, our editors are a young team. Despite this, our most recent editor has been working in our organization for about 1.5 years. On behalf of our organization, we are very proud of the work our editors have done so far and the value they have added to Doğrula.

Doğrula is positively distinguished among fact-checking organizations by its emphasis on editorial transparency. On the other hand, in Turkey, it is almost impossible to find trained individuals in the field of fact-checking, which does not have a long history, and to design the entire staff in this way. In this analysis, we have analyzed the claim that Zekeriya Yapıcıoğlu, the chairman of Hüda-Par(an radical right wing political party), which has recently been the subject of controversy in Turkey with its ideology, allegely said 'we will bring Sharia Law'.
As claimed, Yapıcıoğlu did not make such a statement on his television program, but as a sub-heading in the analysis, we explained the articles in Hüda-Par's charter that would undermine gender equality.

It was a very discussed content. Since Hüda-Par allied with AKP, in other words supported by AKP, right now in the parliament there are parliamentry members from Hüda-Par. As it is publicly known, Hüda-Par is connected to Hizbullah (Islamist terrorist organization) and in the same program Mehmet Akif asked to Yapıcıoğlu a question about Hizbullah and he smiled. He did not answer the question. In this example I do not understand, what created a conflict of interest, and how they reacted against this conflict of interest. Did they make a correction or are they talking about how they created a kind of relation between sharia and gender equality to rationalize this content? If you could kindly explain, it will be appreciated.

During the 2023 General Elections, we analyzed many allegations regarding the discourse of party leaders or important political figures. In all our analyses, our focus was not on the person's insinuation, but on their direct statements. However, if the person/party had an idea or tendency that could benefit the claim, we also presented elements that could exemplify this tendency in our analysis. Because we are aware that our job is not to bring subjective interpretations to information, but only to weigh its objective accuracy. This claim was spread on social media right after Hüda-Par Chairman Zekeriya Yapıcıoğlu said that they would support the AK Party in the elections. It was clearly manipulation. Because in Yapıcıoğlu's program with Mehmet Akif Ersoy, there was no mention of sharia at all. As you said, Yapıcıoğlu could not give a clear answer to the question 'Do you accept Hezbollah as a terrorist organization? However, what we are dealing with in this allegation was not Hüda-Par's connection with Hezbollah, but the fact that Yapıcıoğlu did not say 'we will bring sharia'. Of course, it is possible to indirectly infer that 'if they do not see Hezbollah as a terrorist organization, they may have the aim of bringing Sharia'. But as we said before, we base our analysis on the objective realities of the information. Like almost every other organization, it is not among our policies to publish our work on this issue on our website. Local and international media organizations, as well as companies with a presence in other fields of activity, have not been found to have such a public disclosure policy.
In order to address this issue on our website, we believe that a scenario should be created in which our organization's activities increase the risk of trauma, your employees' awareness of this issue is low, and there is a public expectation on this issue.
This work, which is the subject of human resources, is not only focused on observing social benefit within the ESG concept, but we believe that it should remain in-house in a professional sense, with the fact that it is also a part of managerial improvement.
