The Association of Independent Press (API) is a well-known and active non-commercial civic organization in the Republic of Moldova, dedicated to promoting and supporting the sustainable development of independent media outlets and journalists at both national and regional levels. Since 2017, API has been conducting the Campaign Against False and Biased Information STOP FALS! to diminish the effects and the impact resulting from propagandistic and manipulative information that distorts reality and to build Moldovan citizens' capacities to critically analyze the information received. As part of this campaign, the Stopfals.md portal is updated in Romanian and Russian, and both articles and video content are regularly published to refute false claims and speculation on various topics. At the same time, API holds meetings with consumers of media products and discussions about the ‘fake news’ phenomenon, produces and distributes brochures promoting critical thinking in rural areas of the Republic of Moldova, provides training for journalists and activists on fact-checking and other activities to inform and educate on critical thinking and promote involvement in the fight against disinformation.
